Jamie Medlin

A series of limited edition prints of classic yachting subjects.  Vibrant depictions of dramatic moments at Les Voiles de St.Tropez, Régates Royales,  and the Westward and Pendennis Cups.

"Jamie Medlin is one of the finest living marine artists, whose work has garnered international recognition.  His near photographic attention to detail is perfectly suited to the  yachts he depicts, evoking memories of the golden age of yachting, which when combined with the colour and vibrancy of his paintings makes these works modern masterpieces.” Christie's London.

Jamie Medlin has been painting maritime subjects for over 25 years, starting with the Falmouth Working Boat fleet and scenes of the local area.  In 1986, at the age of 16, he enrolled at Falmouth School of Art and Design to study illustration where he gained the knowledge and fine art skills that have become the basis of his style today. After several years working as an illustrator in London and Australia, he returned home to his native Cornwall and has taken these skills into maritime art.

In 2001, Jamie attended the Jubilee Regatta in Cowes...  "Everywhere I looked there was another beautiful boat. The sheer size of the vessels was one thing, but add to that their grace and beauty . . . it was stunning!  On my return home I had a renewed enthusiasm, wanting to transfer the impact and splendour of these stunning craft onto canvas. I felt I needed to paint much larger pictures to portray the scale and detail in these vast vessels."

Jamie's larger paintings of classic yachting subjects has brought international success, including shows with several leading galleries and regular auctions at Christie's in London.   This has led to some very high profile commissions, including two paintings of the world’s largest privately owned clipper ship The Maltese Falcon, for venture capitalist Tom Perkins and two paintings of Lulworth, for owner Johan van den Bruele.  There have been two paintings of Eric Clapton's motor yacht Va Bene and more recently he has finished a commission for the owner of the J-Class yacht Velsheda.

Jamie's paintings have been featured in marine art publications about some of the most prominent classic yachts sailing today, including Lulworth, Mariquita, Mariette and a new publication 'Ranger to Rainbow' about the J-Class with others having been requested.
